Biography: Shamima Parvin Lasker, PhD (USA), EMMB (Europe), MPH (USA), MPhil (BD), MSc (BD) is an Anatomist, Bioethicist and Journal Editor. Of her 38 years of teaching career, she worked as Professor and Head of Anatomy from 2007-2023 in Bangladesh. She is also the Visiting Professor of Clinical Anatomy, Dentistry, and Bioethics, AUSN, USA. Prof Shamima was a Member of the National Ethics Committee, Bangladesh, for 14 years from 2009-2024, and Member Secretary of the Ethics Committee of the Bangladesh Bioethics Society from 2014-2025. Under her leadership, climate change, AI, and open future concepts were introduced to the IRB members for 1st time in Bangladesh. She organized workshops Sensitization and Capacity Enhancement of EC in Bangladesh on Climate Change-Related Ethical issues and Open Future for the next generation in May 2025 as a research consortium of Belgium. In these workshops, sixty IRB members were educated. In addition, for her earnest zeal for research ethics, the Global Summit of Bioethics/Research Ethics Committee is going to be organized in Bangladesh in 2026 under her patronage. At the national level, Prof Lasker is the pioneer of bioethics in Bangladesh. She is the Founding Chairman and General Secretary of the Bangladesh Bioethics Society. In recognition of her dedicated work and organizing ability to promote the cause of bioethics in Bangladesh, she was honored with “Honorary Lifetime Membership” of the UNESCO Asia Pacific School of Ethics in 2009. Research and publication ethics are her prime interests in promoting integrity in academia. Lasker worked as a Consultant of bioethics for UNESCO in 2009 and FAO in 2015, respectively. She is the longest-serving President of the Asian Bioethics Association (ABA) since 2022 till now. Previously, she served ABA as Vice President (South Asia) from 2014-2022. Shamima has been occupying herself in the Journal editorial system nationally and internationally since 2001. She was the Treasurer of the World Association of Medical Editors (WAME) for the year of 2017-2019 and also served WAME as Director between 2012 and 2014. Presently, she have been serving as Vice President of APAME (Asia Pacific Association of Medical Journal Editors) for 2023-2025. Before became the Vice President, she served APAME as Co-Chair, Ethics and Publication Policy Committee from 2016 to 2018. In the National Level, she is the Vice President of the Bangladeshi Society for Scholarly Journal Editors (BASE) and the Member Secretary of Bangladesh Scholarly Medical Journal Editors (BSMJE). Professor Shamima is the only activist of Academic Integrity in Bangladesh to mobilize publication ethics in academia. Currently, she organized an international conference on Academic integrity in AI technology in Bangladesh in 2023 to commemorate the International Day of Action for Academic Integrity. Shamima has seventy (77) peer-reviewed articles and has authored many books on Anatomy, Bioethics, and Publication Ethics. She has been conferred many awards nationally and internationally. Most prestigious awards are Including the ENAI (European Network of Academic Integrity) award, ASOMPS-X award & Ministry of Science and Technology, Bangladesh.
