TB, Innate Immunity, MMPs, Migration

Biography:

My main research interests are first, in the innate immune response to tuberculosis and in particular, in the mechanisms regulating control of tissue destruction in patients with a view to developing host directed therapies and secondly, in migrant health.  Research is strongly translational from basic cellular mechanisms to investigating patient responses. My team collaborate widely across 5 continents but have a particular long-standing collaboration with partners in Peru.

I am currently Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research & Enterprise) at St. George’s, University of London and President-elect/Secretary General of The European Society of Clinical Microbiology & Infectious Diseases (ESCMID).  I am a Fellow of The Academy of Medical Sciences and a previous recipient of the RCP Weber-Parkes Medal for Research in Tuberculosis.
