Biography:

I am interested in understanding immunity to tropical and infectious diseases, focusing on Tuberculosis and Melioidosis. My previous research work was conducted at the Armauer Hansen Research Institute (AHRI) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. I worked on immunity to Mycobacterium Tuberculosis; evaluating immune responses in patients, their contacts, healthy endemic controls, and individuals given a new candidate vaccine. My recent work, on "Resistors" to Tuberculosis and understanding the subsets of our immune system involved protection and susceptibility to infection, is an ongoing project. My current area of work within the Tropical Immunology group at the Centre for Global Health Research, University of Oxford, is on immunity and vaccine development for Melioidosis. I am studying memory B cells and follicular T helper cells in Melioidosis patients. I look forward to discovering insight from the various diseases and platforms used to understand host immunity to Burkholderia and Tuberculosis and contribute to the search and discovery of biomarkers that can serve as correlates of protection.
