Biography:

Sparsha Pallen has completed her Bachelor of Science in Biotechnology from Manipal School of Life Sciences, MAHE, India and has completed a dual masters degree, Master of science in Nanobiotechnology from Amrita Center for Nanosciences and Molecular Medicine, India, and Master of Science in Molecular Medicine from the University of Arizona, USA. During her masters, she had worked on Immunology and nanoparticles, on a project that involved synthesis of nanoparticles as a vaccine adjuvant, that can stimulate and activate the immune cells. This work was carried out in Amrita and continued at the University of Arizona in the department of Immunobiology to further investigate the effect of the nanoparticles on immune cells.

Currently, Sparsha Pallen has been working as a research student in Dr Ranita Ghosh Dastidar’s lab in Kasturba Medical college, Manipal, India, to understand and explore the immunometabolic changes that occur in Melioidosis patients with diabetes in Indian population. Her area of focus is on a pathogen Burkholderia pseudomallei, and she has been investigating the changes in the immune subsets in the peripheral blood of patients with melioidosis diagnosed in Kasturba Medical College, Manipal, India. She is interested to explore further on the influence of the pathogen on the immune cells. Her interest lies in understanding how the immune profile of an individual would alter in response to Burkholderia pseudomallei and other pathogenic encounters, and to identify key patterns that can be used for the prognosis or treatment.
