Weekly round-up #23

Weekly round-up #23

It's been a busy week for grant calls, so let's jump straight in to finding you all more funding for your research, and for setting up new collaborations with other VALIDATE members!

Funding:

Of course there are many other open calls we've spotted previously - they're all listed on our external funding pages.

Paper spotted this week in our field: Sensitive and less invasive confirmatory diagnosis of visceral leishmaniasis in Sudan using loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) - if you publish a paper and would like us to publicise it across the network, do forward it to our Network Manager.

Twitter (@NetworkVALIDATE) has been busy with the 5th Global Forum on TB Vaccines taking place in Delhi this week - and the announcement of the results of the South African Phase II H4:IC31/ BCG revaccination trial. We've flagged a survey by LSHTM that shows France is the country most distrustful of vaccines; an MRC article on how to take your research into schools to inspire the next generation of STEM researchers; and a blog post of 31 academic hashtags that could enhance your career. If you use human samples in your research and are based in the UK then you can help UK biobanking to identify barriers to sample access by completing their quick survey here. Finally, we tweeted a great article on melioidosis research efforts "This disease kills half the people it infects. Why isn't more being done?" by Wellcome's Mosaic platform, and retweeted IVAC's Kate O'Brien post about how to account for the full public health value of vaccine.

I'll close with an excellent statement by Aeras's Barry Bloom at the TB Vaccine Global Forum yesterday: “Vaccine trials either work or fail. Vaccine research does not fail. We always learn from the research…The only vaccines studies which fail are those from which we fail to learn.”
